Pigeons are major bird pests afflicting many urban buildings in North America. They pose many problems including droppings that must be cleaned away on a regular basis. They also cause damage owing to the acidic content of their droppings, in which fungus can be present. The birds themselves can carry several parasites that can be transferred to humans.
How to Identify a Pigeon Infestation
Pigeons will leave white droppings that can accumulate on walls, sidewalks and pathways, or any other objects in the building’s vicinity. The birds themselves are about 13 inches long and can vary in colour from white to black. Their coat will have an iridescent sheen. They tend to nest in protected locations such as awnings, air conditioners, vents or under ledges.
